Paulo Nutini, The Sanctuary, Birmingham
There are a lot of singer/songwriter types on the scene at the moment. There’s Blunt, Morrison, Matthews and Johnson.
Then there is Paulo Nutini, a charming Scot who is setting the benchmark with wonderful live performances. On stage at The Sanctuary, the rising star mixed current hits such as Jenny Don’t Be Hasty with new songs such as Charity and Rainbow.
Between songs the mop-headed singer engaged his audience by apologising for forgetting to sing to the fans on the upper level and explaining his lyrics.
He ended his encore with an unlikely but brilliant cover of the Gnarls Barkley dance floor hit Closer.
