Warning after raiders hit homes

Nine houses have been burgled in Cheslyn Hay over the last two weeks, police revealed today.Burglars are believed to have struck in daylight, taking advantage of unlocked doors and windows.

The raiders have stolen items such as televisions and computers as well as grabbing cash and jewellery.

Police are now warning residents to be on their guard against opportunist burglars and protect their properties.

Pc Nicholas Gorman urged people to ensure that their doors and windows were always locked if nobody is at home.

“We have had a constant trickle of incidents of this nature,” he said.

“We would like to remind the community of the need to secure windows and doors, to ensure that thieves are not given easy access to personal property.”

On one occasion following a burglary in the early hours of the morning, a youth was seen in the area.

He is described as white, 16 to 18 years old, around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins , of skinny build, with a long pointed nose and was wearing a hooded top.

Residents are being reminded to lock all doors at all times, keep valuable items out of sight and close and lock all windows when not in that room.

Police are also advising people to change their locks if house keys have been lost or stolen and to fit secondary locking systems such as bolts as well as fitting a security chain to stop unwelcome people at your door.

Cheslyn Hay councillor Mac Harris also reminded people to be wary.

“It is very important that residents protect their property from opportunist thieves, especially in the run up to Christmas when traditionally we get a spate of such crimes,” said Councillor Harris.

Anyone with information should call Pc Nicholas Gorman on 08453 302010.
