A second multi-million pound health centre will be built in Rugeley despite a storm of protest from residents who say it would be almost impossible for them to access it.The controversial plans to create the facility at Western Springs School sparked an outcry among elderly residents who say it would be too far from their homes and not on a bus route.
But despite the concerns Cannock Chase Primary Care Trust has decided to go ahead with the scheme more than 13,400 patients replied to a questionnaire.
The majority said patients would prefer to receive their future primary healthcare at the proposed Western Springs Centre.
The PCT had to re-assess the viability of the scheme following the withdrawal of interest in the project by the Aelfgar surgery.
In so doing, the PCT had to seek confirmation from its other partners that they were still on board with the development, that there was agreement on the use of the proposed building and that the development would represent value for money.
As part of the reassessment, the PCT undertook a patient survey with letters sent to 10,000 households in Rugeley.
