Brum’s bull in denim

The Birminham BullBirmingham’s iconic bull will be sporting denims next week to encourage people to take part in Jeans for Genes Day. The five-tonne bronze bull outside the Bullring complex will wear a pair of bespoke, customised jeans to raise the profile of a national charity next Friday.

Jeans for Genes raises money for research into the causes and treatments of genetic disorders which affect children.

The jeans for the bull are the work of Birmingham designer Maurice Whittingham, who is based at The Custard Factory in Digbeth.

He said: “The bull’s a tricky shape to make jeans for, so I’ve had to make a pair up in calico first to make sure they fit.

“He’s got a 200-inch waist. But he’s going to look fantastic.”
