A self-confessed eBay addict is celebrating after he devised a cunning plan to find a bargain – he used the Express & Star’s internet auction site StarBidz.
Kerry Croxon, 39, who has previously notched up more than 1000 purchases on eBay, was singing the praises of our site (www.starbidz.co.uk) after he snapped up a complete set of Blackadder videos for just £2.
Kerry bought the five-tape collection of the Rowan Atkinson historical sitcom in an auction.
Rather than paying postage costs, he just popped round to the seller’s house to collect the tapes – one of the selling points of StarBidz for the avid collector.
“It’s a real benefit to be able to go round to the vendor to collect items,” he said.
“When I’m bidding on eBay I have to consider postage costs. Knowing that with StarBidz you can collect the item means you can bid more if necessary.
“As StarBidz has only recently been launched, the chance of getting a bargain was quite good as there are so many items for sale.”
Kerry says he will regularly visit StarBidz to look for more deals. “One of my colleagues brought in a paper cutting about StarBidz as they knew I am an eBay addict,” he said.
“On average, I spend an hour a day looking for bargains online. I’ve bought over 1000 items on eBay since I started two years ago.
“I collect model cars and run several old cars, so I like to buy parts online.
“I had a look and decided to get Blackadder as I enjoyed the series on TV.
“My other interests include buying vintage advertising literature, DVDs and CDs.”
Kerry added: “The advantage over print adverts is you can see what you are buying as StarBidz can have several photos of each item, so you know if it is what you are looking for.”
It is free to advertise on StarBidz for a limited period. Selling stuff on the site is as easy as 1-2-3.
And there are no hidden costs. Sellers fill out an easy-to-use online f
orm, describing the item and uploading photos.
You can sell it quickly at a fixed price, accept offers or hold an auction - the choice is yours.
After the closing time for bids, you simply collect payment and then deliver or ship the item to the buyer.
The Premium ads, which usually cost £6.00, are currently free.
They appear above the Standard listings in the search results and appear in the Featured Items gallery to gain maximum attention.
They also allow a 2000-character description and up to 8 photos. The standard ads, which appear above the free listings, are usually £2.00 but are also currently free.
They include a 500-character description and up to four photos. The free ads feature one photo and a 150-character description.
All three types of ads stay live on the site for 45 days, or 7 days for auction listings.
StarBidz is one of a number of initiatives being carried out by MNA Digital, the online arm of the Express & Star’s owner Midlands News Association.
