Residents take speed fight to PM

number-ten.jpgIrresponsible drivers racing along a lane in Great Wyrley have forced residents battling for the road be closed off to take their fight to Downing Street.People living in Jacobs Hall Lane said their lives were being made hell by speeding motorists and the menace of mini-motorbikes.

The lane is used as a rat run between the A5 and A34 Walsall Road, and residents said they had been swerved at, sworn at and people had been deliberately soaked by cars driving through puddles.

One mother, who did not want to be named, said: “I am scared to allow my children to cross the road. I am scared to take my car off the drive and into the road.

“I am scared when I am coming home, and I dread taking my kids to school because in the early morning and rush hour people are at their angriest.”

She sent a letter to Downing Street several weeks ago highlighting the problem but has not received a reply.

The residents want the lane closed off at its junction with Jones Lane. Great Wyrley Parish Council has vowed to conduct a survey of the residents to assess the extent of the problem and suggest possible solutions.
