Two brothers had a lucky escape when a car ploughed into the front of their Dudley house, coming to a halt in their lounge. Ranjit Bains, aged 17, had been watching television in the front room when suddenly he was showered with glass from the Toyota Avensis which landed just inches from him.
His 19-year-old brother Parma, who was upstairs, was on his way down to watch a TV programme and believes he could have been killed if he had been in the lounge.
Their mother Rachan Kaur was in the kitchen at the time and was alerted by the sound of the crash which left a gaping hole in the side of their house.
The car became embedded in the front wall of the house in Russells Hall Road at 5.30pm yesterday after the young male driver lost control of the vehicle.
Shaken Ranjit said he had been very lucky to escape injury and had been stunned when the car came in, bringing the wall and glass crashing down in front of him.
“I have been very fortunate,” he said. “I was in a safe place when the car came in. However, glass went all over me. It was a shock.”
His brother Parma said: “I came down and thought ‘Why is there a car in the lounge?’. I was on my computer sending a message to a friend and I was about to go and watch a TV programme.
“I was just walking down the stairs when it all happened.
“If it had been a few minutes later, my brother says I may have been killed if I had actually sat on the settee.”
The driver of the car had to be pulled free by neighbour June Green.
She said: “I suddenly heard the noise of brakes and then a smash.
“I opened the passenger door and he was confused.
“I pulled him out. He was very lucky, he was OK, no real injuries.”
Firefighters spent more than an hour removing the car from the property and had to stabilise the front of the house using support posts.
