Work began today on laying a new quieter surface on a section of the M6 south of Stafford. The scheme to eliminate potholes will involve laying concrete on both carriageways between junction 12 and Penkridge.
The work is due to be completed by early December. Highways Agency project manager Karen Green said: “This is phase two of a three phase resurfacing programme for this section of the M6.
“Once completed, the new road surfacing will reduce traffic noise and spray and will benefit residents of Penkridge and other road users.
Phase two of the scheme involves laying new quieter road surfacing over the existing concrete carriageway along with installing a new concrete barrier in the central reservation and new drainage and road markings.
Work will be carried out 24 hours a day. A 40mph speed limit will be strictly enforced by cameras.
Meanwhile, a summer of misery for motorists using the Birmingham section of the motorway ended today when drivers leaving the city on the A38M Aston Expressway once again were able to join the M6 southbound.
